Overview: This Hackathon window invites participants to package biodiversity-related content into dynamic digital formats such as storymaps, dashboards, webapps, infographics, and other such interactive visualizations or audio/video experiences. The goal is to create compelling digital narratives that weave together data, multimedia, and storytelling to engage decision-makers and the public in biodiversity conservation efforts. Just make sure to leverage free/open biodiversity-related data and make sure your interactive product can be viewed online on a browser with no add-ins.
Target Audience: Identify who your e-packaging solution is aimed at—this could be policymakers, researchers, conservationists, or the general public. The digital format should be tailored to effectively communicate biodiversity issues to your selected audience, generating innovative insights on biodiversity, and inspiring them to take informed action.
Narrative and Multimedia Integration: Go beyond just presenting data. Your e-packaging could combine biodiversity text insights with multimedia/interactive elements - such as images, videos, interactive maps/graphs or even link to live services or cloud analytics - to create a cohesive narrative. This might involve showcasing specific ecosystems, telling the story of a threatened species, habitat or ecosystem, or illustrating conservation successes and challenges. And remember - sometimes less is more to communicate your key points well. No need to write too much - let the visuals speak louder!
Utilizing Digital Tools for Storytelling: Use the full power of digital tools to bring your biodiversity narrative to life. Examples include:
Interactive Visualizations: Enable users to explore biodiversity content in an immersive way, letting them engage with dynamic charts, maps, infographics, dashboards, and other visual narratives.
Interactive Documents (e.g. Storymaps/eBooks): Blend maps with images, videos, and text to tell a story that engages users while highlighting key biodiversity themes. And go ahead and use AI tools to explore new horizons!
Creating Engaging Biodiversity Narratives: The focus is on storytelling - package biodiversity information in a way that is both informative and engaging. Ensure your narrative flows logically, whether you're highlighting a specific species, ecosystem, or conservation strategy. Use multimedia and data creatively to support your message and make it accessible to a wide audience.
Innovative Use of Digital Formats: Whether through storymaps, knowledge explorers, or interactive dashboards, think about how to combine text, images, and visualizations to make the experience immersive.
