This event is a virtual hackathon organized by the World Bank Group supported by its evolving Livable Planet Observatory and a range of partner organizations (see logos at the bottom of the event page). The participants are expected to transform existing public-domain data into powerful visuals and insights that can provide insights into the world of biodiversity at any level (global, regional, national, local). There are three kinds of windows for submissions (ePackaging, Policy Memo, and Coding). See additional details in the event page on each window.
It is launched Oct 15 and goes on till mid-December, going through two phases of competitions.
Please do make sure to send in Phase 1 submissions by 11pm Eastern Time on 11/11/ 2024.
Everybody above 18 years old is welcome to join. We encourage diverse teams (gender, expertise, nationality, institution) around the world. Preference will be given to the team with higher diversity. Please submit only ONE form per team through the team leader. You can apply to one or all the windows (but only one application per team for each).
Please only use data that is freely accessible in the public domain. We have provided a starter list for you at this link, but feel free to use other public-domain data. Also please note that all the final products should be freely accessible in the public domain.
This Hackathon could be an excellent opportunity to learn about Biodiversity or data/analytics and to develop your professional networks - you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts and enthusiasts to work in multi-sectoral teams, and showcase your creativity & talent. Finalists will gain data-rich resources and networking opportunities as well as a certificate for this valuable experience. Winning products will have a chance to be showcased in global platforms. A dedicated half-year mentorship program will be prepared for the winning teams as well.
