PRIVACY NOTICE FOR THE BIODIVERSITY DATA HACKATHON

The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA) (together the "World Bank" or "Bank", "we" or "us") respect your concerns about privacy and is committed to protecting it by establishing and complying with the following Privacy Notice which adheres to the core privacy principles set forth in the Personal Data Privacy Policy of the World Bank Group.

This Privacy Notice applies to the personal data the World Bank collects and handles for the purposes of (i) Registering for its events; (ii) Handling participation in its events; (iii) Engaging with its activities. For the purposes of this Privacy Notice, "Personal Data" means any information relating to an identified or identifiable individual.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Information You Provide to the World Bank

The World Bank collects Personal Data from you directly, including the information you enter during the registration or participation in our events, and survey/communications activities.

Information We Collect by Automated Means

We obtain certain Personal Data by automated means when you visit this site, such as the IP address of the device you use to connect to the Internet and the pages accessed. By collecting this information, we learn how to best tailor the site to our visitors. We collect this information through various means, including "cookies" and "web beacons".

Cookies and Web Beacons

Like many websites, this website use "cookies" and "web beacons". Cookies are bits of text that are placed on your computer's hard drive when you visit certain websites. A "web beacon," also known as an Internet tag, pixel tag or clear GIF, links web pages to web servers and their cookies and may be used to transmit information collected through cookies back to a web server. The World Bank does not sell or otherwise disclose Personal Data collected as set out above, except as described in this Privacy Notice, with third parties we collaborate with in organizing our events. Information may be shared with our partners.

Third parties refer to any other party that is not part of the World Bank or our partners named above. Therefore, the consent provided in this form extends to the World Bank as the legal entity conducting this data collection and handling for the purposes stated in this notice.

We also may disclose Personal Data about you (i) if obliged to do so under international law or by requirements of applicable World Bank Group policies and procedures, (ii) for the purposes of, or in connection with, any legal proceedings, or otherwise for the purposes of establishing, exercising or defending any legal right; or (iii) when we believe disclosure is necessary or appropriate to prevent physical harm or financial loss or in connection with an investigation of suspected or actual illegal activity.

PURPOSES AND TYPES OF PROCESSING

In providing excellent knowledge-sharing experience to you and supporting administrative tasks, the World Bank and third parties working with us may Process your Personal Data in the following ways:

  • To create and manage your personal account for the event you registered for;
  • To send you email notifications and updates about the event you registered for;
  • To send you a formal invitation letter;
  • To provide you with agenda, knowledge resources (e.g. knowledge products, video links) and other administrative documents related to our events;
  • To provide technical support to you before and during an event;
  • To award you with the certificate of completion and other event-related prizes, if applicable;
  • To contact you occasionally to invite you to share your opinions and experiences with regard to our events.
  • To connect you with technical experts and provide technical assistance in the form of operational support or other technical assistance activity.
  • To use your information in an aggregated format and anonymous format to evaluate and improve our events and activities.
  • To contact you occasionally in order to invite you to join our future events (with your consent).
  • To publish participants' opinions and experiences on our website, our SNS accounts (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn), our newsletters, World Bank Feature Stories, World Bank blogs, and other World Bank reports.

Photography, Audio and Video Recording during the BIODIVERSITY DATA HACKATHON

By attending the BIODIVERSITY DATA HACKATHON, you enter an area where photography, audio and video recording may occur. The Organizers may use photographs and/or films bearing your image to publish event-related photos and videos on website, SNS accounts (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn), newsletters, blogs, and other reports related to the BIODIVERSITY DATA HACKATHON.

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR INFORMATION

We maintain appropriate technical and organizational safeguards against unauthorized processing of personal data and against accidental loss, destruction, or damage according to the World Bank information security standards.

HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION

Your Personal Data will be kept only as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice and in accordance with applicable records retention and disposition schedules.

REQUEST AND REVIEW

In accordance with the World Bank Group Policy Personal Data Privacy and pursuant to Personal Data Privacy Request and Review Mechanisms , you may request information regarding the processing of your personal data, subject to reasonable limitations and conditions.
