The Problem
Basins

For the last few weeks, Turkey is again witnessing a rapid growth of marine mucilage (also called Sea Snot or Sea Saliva!), dying, and decomposing on the Sea of Marmara’s surface. Cleaning efforts are underway but cleaning the surface may not help the sea creatures living on the sea floor below. Once the sea snot starts to settle under its own weight and starts sinking towards the seabed, it engulfs and strangles anything that gets caught within it.
