Re-imagining Stakeholder Interaction

Stakeholder interaction is undergoing a revolution with a range of digital platforms. This can range from basic digital multi-media outreach and social media to more complex platforms for stakeholders to interact with each other. These can include new systems to allow fishers to access local and global markets and weather forecasts, fintech systems, and e-learning, to blockchain/tokenized systems to facilitate mangrove plantations (e.g. as has been tried in the Ayeyarwady delta in Myanmar).

Leveraging the wisdom of the crowd, especially the youth, is a promising institutional approach globally. Across the world, various competitions including hackathons (see World Bank Lessons from Water Hackathons ), data jams, appathons, blogathons, X-prize, design and other innovation challenges are being organized to develop solutions to the most pressing Blue Economy issues of our times. Internships on various aspects BlueTech (e.g. at provincial, national, or regional water-related agencies) are also an excellent way to leverage the cutting-edge talent and enthusiasm of budding professionals while contributing to a more developmentally-aware next generation. These can not only help encourage and recognize innovative ideas but help facilitate partnerships within and across countries in the new global village.
