This e-book activity was led by Nagaraja Rao Harshadeep (Harsh), Global Lead (Disruptive Technology) and Urvashi Narain, Lead Economist, Environment, Natural Resources and Blue Economy (ENB) Global Practice of the Sustainable Development (SD) Practice Group at the World Bank.

This e-book has been developed by a team of Bank staff and by consultants that work as part of the Disruptive KIDS (Knowledge, Information & Data Services) Helpdesk led by Harsh. Specifically, Joy Iganya Agene, Isabel Tellez Ramos, Hrishikesh Patel, Aditi Jha, Kavita Kapur Macleod, Afua Owusua Oguah, Shaffiq Somani, Akash Mehta, and Aminul Islam conducted research and writing to develop this e-book. It has also benefitted from the work of several people who have contributed to work on watershed management at the World Bank (e.g., Stefano Pagiola for the section on Payment for Ecosystem Services, Grant Milne for watershed management insights, and several others).

The team gratefully acknowledges the financial support provided for this e-book by the South Asia Water Initiative (SAWI). SAWI is a multi-donor trust fund supported by the United Kingdom, Australia, and Norway, and administered by the World Bank. SAWI supports a rich portfolio of activities to increase regional cooperation in managing major Himalayan river systems to deliver sustainable, fair, and inclusive development and climate resilience. SAWI works in three river basins (Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra) and one landscape (Sundarbans). Together, those focus areas span seven countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal and Pakistan.
